Miami Marlins vs. Washington Nationals Prediction
This matchup looks familiar.
Well, if you’ll recall, we just had this same Rogers vs. Rogers encounter less than a week ago; an afternoon tilt that saw quality pitching from the two starters before both bullpens coughed up the correctly-called under (with help from a horrific defensive miscue in the seventh).
Nevertheless, we’ll take another crack at the all-Rogers showdown. After all, neither really phased when facing these offenses.
Rogers, the Miami one, only went four innings, but that was due to an inflated pitch count. Plus, it was only his third start back from the injured list, but the All-Star left-hander should have more leash again.
So long as that is the case, he has the potential to go deep into this game, something the second-year hurler had a habit of doing before landing on the sidelines. Before the All-Star break, Rogers guided the Fish into the sixth inning or later in all but two of his 18 starts. He appears to be nearing that form that led him to the Midsummer Classic.
When the Marlin hurler is in rhythm, he’s proven he can dominate during any given turn. The other Rogers from the Nats is also seemingly in a really nice groove now.
How could he not? This is a southpaw that was tossed aside by the Orioles of all teams, not even making an appearance last year during the 60-game campaign. But, since receiving newfound life in the bigs from Washington earlier this month, Rogers is making the most of it.
The Louisville product has looked solid each time out, notching at least five frames in all three outings. This span includes his first career quality start and a fine effort against these Marlins last week when he scattered only a pair of baserunners across five scoreless innings.
This is a time in the season where guys like Rogers, who is underrated, to begin with, seize their opportunities following some sort of lengthy absence at this level.
The Washington lefty is showing that he can indeed hang with Major League hitters. While it would be a lot asking Josh to duplicate his performance from the last encounter, something just fine would do.
And that may be his outlook’s potential floor tonight given the fact that the Marlins are last in the league in team OPS (.665) and second-to-last in average (.229) against left-handed pitching.
Interestingly, despite last week’s clash sailing over the total (thanks to relievers), Rogers and Rogers have drawn an over/under that’s an entire run lower. However, a similar shift was expected, considering this contest is emanating from a pitcher-friendly park. Anyhow, look for both starters to do their jobs right once again.
