Cleveland Indians vs. Chicago White Sox

Over/Under: 7

First Pitch: 6:10 p.m. ET

Probable Pitchers: Michael Kopech (4-3, 3.69 ERA) vs. Zach Plesac (10-6, 4.59 ERA)

Cleveland Indians vs. Chicago White Sox Prediction

In the future, Kopech is going to be a dominant starter if he’s able to stay healthy throughout his career. But, for now, he’s mostly a dominant reliever, making it potentially advantageous to latch onto the flame-throwing right-hander for a start.

Kopech is on record of preferring a starting role. He’s performed whichever way Chicago unloads him, but as a starter, he’s been at his best. Though he’s only made three starts this year, Kopech was superb, etching a pretty 2.25 ERA and 0.83 WHIP alongside 19 K’s to just three walks, spanning 12 innings of work.

Even if he’s not provided more than a few frames to cover, we’ll gladly enlist the terrific White Sox pen, which is still a strength of the club even without Kopech.

Then we have Plesac, a solid starter that was in a very nice stretch until his last time out — a date at Yankee Stadium in which he was tagged for five runs. Still, he did the previous six frames and registered six strikeouts.

Plesac has experienced mixed results opposite the Pale Hose, but I like him in this spot. The White Sox are deploying all their offensive regulars in the lineup for Game 1; this is the second half of the twin bill, and Plesac will most likely be dealing with a considerably less difficult lineup.

The 2016 12th-round pick appears to be in a nice groove overall after not previously being the case after returning from his freak finger injury. Let’s trust him to deliver his steady production and pave the way for another quality pen.
