Opening Day is finally here and while we don't have a full slate to work with, there are still some solid matchups as my focus is on the NL East matchup between the New York Mets and Washington Nationals. Let's break it down.
ANALYSIS

New York Mets vs Washington Nationals Best Bet: Expect the Mets to Be Swinging

The Mets have had to deal with a lot of disappointment over the last few years. They have had a ton of injuries but for the first time in a while, their lineup looks to be at full strength. JD Davis had been one of the most consistent hitters for the Mets and he missed a considerable amount of time last year and was only able to play in 73 games. Davis is finally back healthy and should be a force in the top half of this Mets lineup. The Mets were also active in free agency as they signed Starling Marte, Eduardo Escobar, and Mark Canha.

Marte brings much-needed speed and contact ability to the top half of their lineup and I expect him to have a big year. He is a high average guy who brings a lot of speed to this Mets team who really struggled to score runs last season. Marte's ability to get on base and steal bases should improve their ability to plate more runs this season. Escobar and Canha are also very experienced and High IQ hitters who usually have high on-base percentages. I also expect Star shortstop Francisco Lindor to have a much better year as his first in a Mets uniform was very disappointing.

On the other side of this matchup, we have the Washington Nationals who made it quite clear down the stretch last season that they are in rebuild mode. They traded Scherzer/Turner and Strausburg starts the year on the Injured List (As Usual) so it's up to Juan Soto to keep this team afloat. I think Soto is a future MVP and is one of the most poised hitters in the league but I am not sure he has much protection behind him in their lineup this season.

The addition of Nelson Cruz is big for them but beyond Cruz, the Nats lineup has a lot of question marks. The bottom half of their lineup consists of Victor Robles, Alcides Escobar, Maikel Franco, Lane Thomas, and Keibert Ruiz. Ruiz is a highly-touted prospect with a lot of upsides but right now I would consider him a below-average MLB player who will need to really step up to protect Soto/Cruz in the lineup.

On the mound for the Mets tonight is big man Tylor Megill. Megill is a towering 6'7 and gets really good downhill action on his fastball. Megill can run his fastball up to 97-98 MPH and is coming off a solid rookie season which I expect him to build on. On the bump for the Nationals is Patrick Corbin who is coming off a horrendous season. Corbin posted a 9-16 5.82 ERA last season and really struggled at home as his era went up to 6.27 in his home starts.

Corbin also really struggled to get right-handed hitters out as they posted a 302/359/562 slash line against him last year. He really struggled to keep the ball out of the ballpark as he gave up a lot of homers and I think this Mets lineup will be able to have success off of him again tonight. I do not trust the Mets Bullpen so with that being said, I am rolling with Mets F5 (First 5 innings) ML at -110 for 1U tonight as my most confident MLB play of the day.
