In my opinion, this is a very tough matchup for the Mets. The Phillies have an absolutely loaded lineup and have no trouble driving runs in and they will be facing the back end of the Met's rotation. Tonight the Mets will throw out Taijuan Walker who had an abysmal second half of the season last year after getting off to a great start. The Phillies have also had great success against Walker as 5 players in their starting lineup tonight have career averages over 300 against Walker including Kyle Schwarber who is 5-10 against him with all 5 hits being home runs.
On the bump for the Phillies, tonight is Ranger Suarez who was one of the most impressive and surprising pitchers in the entire league last season. Suarez split duties between being a reliever and a starting pitcher and excelled no matter what role he was in. Suarez posted a 1.36 ERA in 106 innings, a 1.00 WHIP, and had 5.6 wins above replacement which is just insane for a guy who barely topped 100 innings. Suarez will be huge for the Phillies again this season as he looks to anchor the bottom half of their starting rotation.
The big question mark for the Phillies this season is their bullpen. Last season, they had one of the worst bullpens in the league and were at the top of the league in blown saves. With that being said, I am rolling with the Phillies on the F5 ML at -145 for 1U tonight as I think Suarez opens his season on a high note and holds the Mets down through the first half of this game.
