Yankees vs. Blue Jays Line Movement

Yankees vs. Blue Jays Prediction

The Blue Jays and Yankees will send out their ace pitchers who both struggled in their first outings. Gerrit Cole of the Yankees went just four innings against the Red Sox while allowing four hits, three runs, one walk, and one home run. Cole struck out just three batters and threw only 68 pitches. In that game, Cole struggled early but kept the Yankees in the game where the Yankees eventually won the game in extra innings.

Cole has an xFIP of 3.12 last season with 34.6% strikeouts and 5.8% walks. He was the pre-season favorite to win the AL Cy Young award. However, Cole struggled a bit against lefties when it came to power, giving up a .168 ISO to lefties. The good news for Cole is that the Blue Jays are mostly a right-handed heavy lineup, which should help Cole get back on track.

Still, the Blue Jays' projected lineup hit a .190 ISO and .335 wOBA against righties last season while only striking out 19.5% of the time. However, the Blue Jays have a .331 average as a unit against Cole with 127 at-bats. Cavan Biggio leads the charge with two home runs against Cole but he might not even play in this game.

On the other hand, Jose Berrios will take the mound for the Blue Jays after one of the worst starts of his career. Berrios allowed four runs on three hits in .1 inning of work against the Rangers. However, just like the Yankees with Cole, the Blue Jays fought all the way back and defeated the Rangers, 10-8 in that game.

Still, Berrios looked horrible, with no strikeouts and two walks as well. But, the Yankees have really struggled against Berrios as a unit with just a .163 average in 89 at-bats. Last season, Berrios had a 3.77 xFIP with a 26.4% strikeout rate and 5.9% walk rate. He was an ace pitcher analytically and will likely get back to that against the Yankees tonight.

Both pitchers struggle against lefties but both lineups will be mostly dominated by right-handed hitters. Therefore, I'll take the Under 4.5 in the first five innings in this one.
