Let's get out some juicy info to start this article. The Mets haven’t scored a second-inning run in 6/6 games. The Phillies haven’t scored a second-inning run in 5/5 games. Combined these teams are 11/11 on failing to score in the inning. One could argue that both teams are due but today doesn’t appear to be the day with Scherzer and Nola on the bump. The two teams faced off last night (different pitchers of course) and 7 of their 9 innings were scoreless. I don’t anticipate that happening again but I see two zeros under the 2nd inning column at least.
Scherzer is matchup proof, he has only allowed 24 hits in 162 at-bats vs these batters which is good for less than a .150 average. No matter how old he gets he just feels like one of the safest guys in all of sports to trust with your money. If he somehow gets lit up I couldn’t be mad at the guy for all of the hard work he has put towards my bets in previous seasons. Nola is also great but not on Scherzer's level just yet. Nola has over 200 duels vs these batters so they know him well which is scary. Assuming he goes against the 5-9 batters though I still like our odds. He struggles against Ninmo who leads off and Alonso who bats 4th. We actually want a hit or walk in the first so can avoid Pete. If he can open the inning against Escobar I feel pretty good.
This is my first multiple NRSI day and I couldn’t be more excited about it. Not every day will be like this but we’re seeing many opening day starters get their second time up and it makes sense to bet these when above-average pitchers step foot on the mound. Much like our first bet of the day, this game has an 8.5 total which is reason to be optimistic. I really like this one and trust both of these pitchers no matter who is in the batter's box.
