Seattle Mariners vs Houston Astros Best Bets: Can the Mariners Stay Hot?
The Astros have been struggling a bit over their last few games, particularly at the plate as they have not been scoring a lot of runs. The loss of Correa and inconsistencies of Kyle Tucker, Jose Altuve, and Yordan Alvarez are really hurting them to start the season. Those three hitters for the Astros I just mentioned are widely regarded as three of the top 50 hitters in baseball yet all are hitting under 145 through the first seven games of the year... not good. Bregman is also back in the lineup and looks to be fully healthy for the first time in a while and has been one of the few consistent offensive players for them to this point.

The real surprise of this Astros team has been their pitching. Before their 11-1 loss to the Mariners last night, the Astros were No. 1 in Major League Baseball in team ERA. In their first six games of the season, they only allowed over three runs one time and that was in a 13-6 win over the Angels.
Tonight, the Astros will start Justin Verlander who looked very comfortable in his first start back from injury. Verlander threw five innings and only allowed one run against a very potent Angel's offense. He only allowed three total hits but did walk three batters so he will need to have better control tonight in order to get deeper into the game.
On the mound for the Mariners tonight will be Chris Flexen who was very solid for the Mariners last season. In his first start, he struggled as he gave up three earned runs in 4 1/3 innings to the Twins while allowing five hits and three walks. Flexen did not have his best stuff and it showed as the Twins had no problem getting on base all day against Flexen. Even though Flexen had a really solid year in 2021, he struggled against the Astros in three total starts against Houston, Flexen tallied an 0-2 record with a 5.74 ERA as he allowed 10 earned runs in 15 2/3 innings. Even more alarming is that he allowed 27 hits and allowed the Astros to have a 380-batting average against him in those appearances.
The Astros have been slumping at the plate lately and I think this favorable matchup against a guy they have seen multiple times and had success against in the past is just what they need to bounce back. With that being said, I am rolling with Astros F5 ML at -145 and Full Game ML at -135 for 1U each as my two most confident MLB plays of the day. I think Verlander is going to do his thing on the mound and limit the M's to 1-2 runs and also think the Astros offense is going to wake up tonight.
