I’m such a believer in this Blue Jays team. Before the season started they were my pick to come out of the American League and that hasn’t changed. This bet is definitely about my faith in them but also about my disbelief that Paul Blackburn can replicate his opening start. Blackburn has never been the type of guy capable of shutting down a team the way he did a week ago I surely wouldn’t bet on it happening twice in a row. This is the same guy coming off of a 5.87 ERA season. Today I think he comes back down to reality.
Hyun Jin Ryu is on the mound for Toronto. For whatever reason Ryu has worse splits at home than on the road but he does sport a fantastic history vs these Oakland bats. The Athletics team only 2 hits in 13 at-bats against him and both were just singles. Usually, when I see a bunch of batters who are unfamiliar with the pitcher it will benefit the pitcher. Ryu struggled in his opening start as well and with my law of averages theme I like him to bounce back and Blackburn to revert back to old ways.
Toronto bats against Blackburn are also inexperienced but have a better history of 5 hits in 13 at-bats and two walks. This is a small sample size but good for a .466 OBP. Toronto are one of those teams you never want to bet against and iIll gladly ride them as often as possible this year. They are simply more talented than Oakland and this first five bet should make it to where we have to worry about that shaky bullpen.
