Oakland has been a surprising team for me. It’s obviously still early in the year but I wouldn’t have expected them to be a .500 club through 10 games. They just played the Blue Jays really tough and although they lost the series they competed and kept every game close and even stole one. They now get a much easier Orioles squad. Baltimore is 3-6 on the year which is expected and has to face Frankie Montas today. Montas is such a great talent and the only Oriole batter with a good history against him is Odor who seems like his best days are behind him. Spenser Watkins is on the bump for Baltimore and he seems to still be finding his groove in the league.

I think the Athletics win this game outright but the first 5 has much less juice and you don’t really have to take into account bullpens here so it’s fewer variables. I’m just such a Montas fan and a believer that Baltimore will join the 100 loss club again, so I had to take this.
Montas had a nice bounce-back game against Tampa where he went on to receive the win. The Orioles are a major step down from Philadelphia and Tampa Bay so I’m expecting his best start of the year. We don’t need a no-hitter and Oakland to score a million runs, I’ll gladly take a boring 2-1 start to the game in the first 5 innings and call it a cash. Oakland's bats have been good and this game total of only 7.5 makes me think that Montas throws a gem.
Sometimes as bettors we obsess over making the “sharp” pick and not wanting to be a square bettor but bets like this you have to take. These will win way more than they lose and if you’re only laying -120 juice, you will be destined to profit long-term trusting the team with both an arguably better lineup and pitcher. Oakland are -190 favorites for a reason and I think the only way we lose this is if it’s a tie through five innings and Watkins has the best start of his career. This is a bet I will gladly ride.
