San Diego Padres vs. Cincinnati Reds Prediction: Is Nick Lodolo A Strikeout God?
The MLB will be here all summer so we can put it on the back burner a little if we want to. That's the attitude of most sports bettors right now. While I borderline agree, we still need to get action down. It's the right thing to do. These guys are out there busting their asses, so we should be betting on them. This is non-negotiable. Good people don't let good people work for nothing. It's just not done. Now we don't have to bet on all the games, but we do need to bet on some of them. I'd say at least one per day. Lucky for us, I found a gem that every else on this planet will miss. It's a comeback story and everyone loves a comeback story. Even people that say they don't love comeback stories. Unlike most comeback stories, we can bet on this one which makes it the best kind of comeback story.

We're obviously at FanDuel but they have the escalators so what do you want me to do? DraftKings is out here throwing out 3.5 for -170. Who in their right mind thinks that's a good idea? Not me. If this kid goes out there and gets smoked, we'll lose $170 for every $100 we bet. I'd much rather lay $200 with the hopes of winning $434 for six whiffs. We even win $34 for every $100 if he gets to five. Easy stuff here people.
The haters are going to say that this kid got blown up last time he took the mind and they're right. He did. It was the kid's first MLB start though. He was nervous. Lodolo seems like a smart kid so he's likely watched the film and knows where he went wrong. At the end of the day, the kid fanned four guys in that start. He got his ass handed to him and he still fanned four guys. It was the Guardians too. They are a top 10 strikeout team. They just don't whiff that much.
Tonight, Lodolo is getting the San Diego Padres. They are not a team that doesn't strike out. In fact, only one team in MLB has been worse over the last three games. On the season, they're 23rd in MLB averaging almost 10 whiffs a game. They aren't even facing guys that strike guys out either. Ian Anderson dropped seven of them the other night. No offense to Anderson but he could just as easily have a game where he doesn't strike anyone out. He did that a couple of times last season.
Lodolo isn't exactly a guy that strikes guys out but he isn't exactly a guy that doesn't strike guys out either. In the minors last season, the kid threw 50.2 innings and fanned 78 guys. He faced 24 batters last game and every time he faced at least 19 in the minors last season he fanned at least six of them (I know this isn't the minors). I think this kid is going to have a coming out party (strikeouts wise) at some point and tonight sets up well for it. Getting 6+ at +300 feels like a gift.
