Marlins vs. Cardinals Line Movement

Miami Marlins vs. St. Louis Cardinals Prediction

On Wednesday, the Marlins were shut out in a fairly pathetic offensive performance against Miles Mikolas who is not one of their top arms. One of the biggest struggles for the Marlins over the past few seasons has always been producing runs. They have one of the best pitching staffs in the league with Alcantara, Lopez, Rogers, and Luzardo but don’t quite have the potent lineup to back them up.

Tonight they’ll face flamethrower Jordan Hicks who will likely serve as an opener and throw 1-2 innings before handing the ball off. Hicks throws 100+ on most of his fastballs and has some of the nastiest stuff in the league. He does struggle with his control at times and I think the patience of this Marlins lineup may give him some fits. The Marlins are a bottom-tier offensive club but they usually give solid at-bats and see a lot of pitches, they just lack the talent to take advantage of mistakes. I think they’ll be able to work the count on Hicks and get runners on base and also think they are due for some positive offensive regression as they won’t get shutout forever.

Another aspect of why I like the Marlins in this game is the line dynamic as I frequently talk about in these articles. Hicks has a 0.00 ERA, the Cardinals have taken the first 2 games of the series and they have a significantly better record than the Marlins yet they are +115 underdogs? That line doesn’t make much sense and it is usually a good indication to bet on the favorite in those types of matchups. Pablo Lopez is a very good pitcher who some consider being the ace of their staff and he has always pitched better at home so I expect a great effort from him tonight.

I think the Marlins bats are finally going to wake up and should provide Lopez with some run support that he desperately needs. With that being said, I am rolling with the Marlins F5 ML -125 for 1U as my most confident MLB play of the night as I think the Marlins will be motivated to avoid the sweep and start this game fast.
