Washington Nationals vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Prediction: Look to Fade Both Starting Pitchers

The Washington Nationals and Arizona Diamondbacks are going to be the flashiest offenses this year. There are going to be times when both of these teams struggle at the plate offensively. But today won't be that day.

The Diamondbacks rallied for 11 runs in yesterday's game and while they might not replicate that kind of output, runs should be expected in this game against the Nationals. Here are our picks, predictions, and odds for Thursday's game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Washington Nationals.

Nationals vs. Diamondbacks Line Movement

Washington Nationals vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Prediction

Throughout the year, I'm not going to be confident with Washington and Arizona's offenses. However, today, I'm confident enough. The Nationals will pitch Josh Rogers, who is 1-1 with a 3.72 ERA. Dating back to last season, Rogers has really struggled through, giving up a 6.23 xFIP with just 14.1% strikeouts and 9.4% walks.

Righties have hit a .361 wOBA and ISO of .231 in 137 plate appearances dating back to last season and the Diamondbacks should have at least six righties in the lineup to face Rogers. Two of the big names in the Arizona lineup include Ketel Marte and Christian Walker. These guys have hit for an elevated ISO number dating back to last year against lefties and should do the same against Rogers today.

On the other hand, Zach Davies is 0-1 with a 5.79 ERA through two starts this season for the Diamondbacks. Dating back to last year, he's had a 5.42 xFIP with 17% strikeouts and 11.1% walks. His line-drive contact is high and he's struggled to get righties and lefties throughout his last couple of seasons.

The Nationals don't have the craziest offense but the middle of the order includes Juan Soto, Nelson Cruz, and potentially Josh Bell if he's healthy enough. That's enough to make an impact against Davies.

With that said, I like the over in this game. It's sitting at 8.5 in the full game or you can look at taking it just in the first five. You probably won't go wrong either way.
