Padres vs. Dodgers Line Movement

San Diego Padres vs. San Diego Padres Prediction

The San Diego Padres signed Nick Martinez to a four-year deal worth $25.5 million. It was a surprising signing knowing that Martinez was pitching in Japan and the Olympics because of the fact that he couldn't make it in the MLB a few years ago.

Anyway, it's a great story but I'm not so sure Martinez belongs in the majors. Martinez has allowed five runs and 12 hits in 10 innings of work and he just gave up three home runs to the Braves last Saturday.

This season, Martinez has just 20% strikeouts and 11.1% walks. He's not inducing ground balls and will now have to face a healthy and stacked Los Angeles Dodgers lineup that has a .194 ISO and wOBA of .350 dating back to last season.

On the other hand, the Dodgers will send out Julio Urias. He wasn't great in his first outing but turned that performance around with a solid second outing. Urias has a 3.93 xFIP dating back to last season and has continued to limit walks at a high rate while earning nearly 26% strikeouts.

Urias will allow some power to lefties at times but ultimately, Urias is consistently good. The Padres won't strike out all that often but have plenty of guys at the bottom of the order who can "rally kill."

There will only be two lefties in the lineup against Urias, who is a lefty, but the thing is, Urias allows more power to lefties. Therefore, the Padres might struggle to score runs in this one.

I'll grab the Dodgers -.5 in the first five innings at -125.
