San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction

The Dodgers and Padres have both gotten off to solid starts this season largely in part to their pitching. The Padres typically play in low-scoring games and rely on their starters to go deep in games while the Dodgers are a bit more explosive. The Dodgers lead the league in most innings with 3 or more runs and are very dangerous due to their ability to hit the long ball. The Dodgers are also very good at working counts and getting on base as well due to their experience.

Last night, the Dodgers offense looked lost as Darvish continued his success at home and held the Dodgers scoreless. Trea Turner tied the game up in the 8th inning on a double off the wall with 2 outs that nearly left the yard, but the Padres were able to recover and win on a walk-off sac fly in the 10th inning.

This is a big psychological game for both teams, but more importantly the Padres. it would be huge psychologically to win a home series against the presumed best team in the league and presumed NL West Division winner so can they get it done? I do not believe so.

The Dodgers will start Clayton Kershaw tonight who has looked excellent to start the season. He opened the year with a perfect game through 7 innings and then got hit around a little bit by the Braves. Even though Kershaw got the win in his last start, it was nowhere near up to his normal standards and I expect a much better performance tonight in a big game atmosphere with the series on the line.

The Padres will start Sean Manaea who has also gotten off to an excellent start to the season. Manaea comes into this game with a 2-1 record and just a 1.42 ERA, so he has been very good through three starts but I expect him to regress a bit today. Two of Manaea's three starts have come against the Reds, and D-Backs this season so I think his statistics have to be taken with a grain of salt considering those are two of the worst offensive teams in the league this season.

This game also features one of my favorite line dynamics. The Dodgers are heavy favorites even on the road against a starting pitcher with a significantly lower ERA than Kershaw. With that being said, I am rolling with Dodgers F5 ML at -149 for 1U and Dodgers Full Game -1 at -119 for 1U as my most confident MLB picks of the day. I think the Dodgers will get to Manaea early and won't look back as I think they win the rubber match in this series and leave San Diego with a win.
