Washington Nationals vs. San Francisco Giants Prediction
Today, the San Francisco Giants are looking to earn a sweep over the Washington Nationals. After winning the first two games fairly easily, the Giants will send ace pitcher Logan Webb to the mound to finish off the series.
Webb is 1-1 with a 2.55 ERA to start the season. He's got a WHIP of 1.08 and has finished six innings or more in two of his first three starts. Webb struggled to earn a whole lot of strikeouts against the Mets but ultimately, he had 10 in his previous two games combined and should have no problems with this Nationals lineup.
Dating back to last season, Webb has a 2.81 xFIP along with 26% strikeouts and 5.8% walks. He's also earned over 61% ground balls and has quickly become one of the best pitchers in the game.
On the other hand, Joan Adon will take the mound for the Nationals. The young pitcher had his best career outing in his last start, blanking the Diamondbacks in 6.1 innings of work. He allowed three hits, struck out five, and walked two.
Before that game, Adon didn't finish five innings in either of his previous two starts and allowed plenty of hits along with 10 runs in nine innings of work. Combining all three starts, Adon has allowed 16 hits in 15.1 innings along with 10 runs and three home runs. He's also walked nine and struck out 13 with 29 fly balls to 19 ground balls.
Adon has struggled against lefties, giving up a .424 wOBA and ISO of 235 in 60 plate appearances. The Giants love platooning guys and should have at least four lefties in the lineup including power bats like Mike Yastrzemski, Brandon Belt, Joc Pederson, and Brandon Crawford. All four of those guys have inflated ISO numbers against righties dating back to last season.
Adon pitched well against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks are the worst offense in baseball. Against the Giants, I'm expecting Adon to get right back to his old self.
Take the Giants -.5 in the first five innings.
