Merrill Kelly has looked good so far through the beginning of his twenty-two-campaign sporting a .59 ERA through his first handful of outings but I expect some regression and the Dodgers are an excellent team to expect it to happen against.
Kelly has faced this Dodgers lineup a handful of times before and he has not been too successful in regard to keeping them quiet although not many can. On 109 AB’s he has walked just five but has surrendered 42 hits and they are slashing for a really nice line of .385/.408/.620 (comes out to a 1.028 OPS.)
Walker Buehler on the other hand has not had a terrific start this year (statistically) however I am in no way shape or form worried about the young ace; he will find his groove in a strong way at some point this season and this is an excellent opportunity to do so.
On 103 at-bats against this lineup, Walker has struck out 31 batters and held them to a slash line of just .159/.258/.310. The Dodgers are the best team in the MLB and their lineup is lethal top to bottom; I do not care if they sit a starter or two or if a guy has not found their game yet this season.
I said it before the season started and I will reiterate it: you cannot pitch to these guys. This lineup is unlike any other; most teams you have some bats to avoid but with LA you really cannot give any of them anything too good. Cody Bellinger is a 23-year-old former MVP batting in the EIGHT HOLE for them and he hit three bombs with an OPS over a thousand last week.
Other guys still need to find it and expect them to; Buehler is due for a big game and I am going to back baseball's best team to support him as he secures his first second win of the season tonight. The Dodgers have secured all eleven of their wins by multiple runs this season and have scored more than anyone else in baseball. Merrill Kelly looks good but he has not seen LA yet this season.
