How disrespectful is this? They are underestimating our adopted second favorite team! I’ve been so high on the Mariners this offseason, enough for them to be my only futures bet of the year. I am far from disappointed in their performance so far, they are 10-6 and have won six of their last seven games. You could dismiss it by saying it’s mostly against the Royals and Rangers but that’s what good teams do, beat up bad teams. The Mariners weren’t a fluke last year, they are legitimately good and here to stay. So why this bet tonight? Let's get into it.
I most certainly have respect for Tampa Bay, I think they’re better than their 9-7 record indicates and are a threat to win any game they go into. With that being said, I love tonight's pitching advantage. Logan Gilbert is on the bump for Seattle and he has been elite this year. I don’t want to overreact to three starts but boy has he looked good. He has pitched 16.2 innings and has only allowed one run. He is sporting a 0.54 ERA and seems to be pitching the best baseball of his life. Lifetime against these Tampa bats he has only allowed seven hits in 35 at-bats. A .200 average by Tampa against him doesn’t strike fear into me. Tampa is starting an opener today by the name of Matt Wisler, he has allowed nine hits in 27 at-bats which is good for a .333 average. He shouldn’t pitch more than two innings. Then will come Josh Fleming who has allowed three runs and five runs in his last two starts, not great.
The cool thing about this bet is we don't need Mariners to lead after five innings. All we need is at least a tie and we are cash. A team like the Mariners can put up runs on anyone (especially these two) and I like Logan Gilbert quite a bit. This feels like a no-brainer of a pick. The only reason this isn’t more than one unit is that Tampa is at home but it’s still a great look and we shouldn’t be getting this offered to us. Lets win the game outright too so we’re one win closer to cashing our future on them.
