Most series are winding down today so we have day baseball as most teams hit the road to head home or to their next series. My focus for today is on the final game of the series between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks. Let's break it down.

Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers Line Movement

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction

The Dodgers are again one of the top teams in the league and have gotten off to a solid start this season with a 12-5 record, but they played very lackadaisically in their game last night. They scored 3 runs in the first inning and then never scored again against one of the worst teams and pitching staffs in the entire league. A lot of missed opportunities and unfocused at-bats after the first inning and ultimately the Dodgers blew a 3-0 lead and ended up losing 5-3.

Today, they look to win the series, but they have a tall test in front of them facing the Diamondbacks ace in Zac Gallen. Gallen is the D-Back's best pitcher by far and has gotten off to a solid start in his 2022 campaign. He is 0-0 with 2 no-decisions and has only allowed 1 run through 9 innings. Even more impressively, he has only allowed 4 hits through 9 innings as well, so he has really done a good job of limiting solid contact and avoiding damage. Both of Gallen's starts came against the Mets and while the Mets have gotten off to a good start, they do not have the same type of talent that the Dodgers have up and down the lineup so it will be a tough test for Gallen as well. Will Gallen be able to hold the Dodgers down? I do not believe so.

The Dodgers have been very anemic offensively so far in this series as they only scored 4 runs in the opening game and 3 runs last night. 5 of those 7 runs came in the 1st inning of those games too so they have been really limited in the latter half of those games against a very weak D-backs bullpen. The Dodgers are a very experienced group and I expect them to have much more focused at-bats today with the series on the line.

With a team like the Dodgers, there may be a tendency to take opponents lightly when playing bad teams such as the D-backs, Reds, Orioles, etc. That is what happened last night. The Dodgers basically took a 3-run lead for granted and their intensity and focus completely dropped off the rest of the game as they let the D-backs creep back in and ultimately win the game. I do not expect the Dodgers to take today's game lightly at all and expect full focus from top to bottom. Also, we have to think there is a certain pride factor on the line today as it is fairly embarrassing to lose a series to the D-backs, and I think that might play a role in the Dodgers playing with a competitive edge.

Urias is on the mound for the Dodgers today and he has been excellent over his past two starts. He started off the season very shaky as he looked awful against the Rockies but has righted the ship as he only allowed 1 earned run and 3 total hits in his last 10 innings against the Reds and Padres. I expect Urias to limit the D-backs offensively as they have been one of the worst offensive teams in the league. With that being said, I am rolling with Dodgers F5 ML at -159 and Full Game -1 at -146. Decent amount of juice here but I am confident the Dodgers come out focused and end the series on a high note.
