Braves vs. Cubs Line Movement
Atlanta Braves vs. Chicago Cubs Prediction
This season, offense has been a bit harder to come by. Nice cracks of the bat and good hitting is just resulting in fly outs that barely even reach the warning track. However, the Braves have found success against righties to begin the year. Tonight, the Braves will take on Mark Leiter Jr., who is a 31-year-old pitcher that has allowed an 11.05 ERA to begin the year.
Leiter Jr. has given up nine runs in two outings with eight hits and six walks. He's struck out seven but hasn't thrown more than 74 pitches in either outing.
Leiter Jr. has a 5.64 xFIP to begin the season with 20% strikeouts and 17.1% walks. The right-hander has also been dreadful against righties, giving up a wOBA of .465 and an ISO of .357 in 16 plate appearances. He's also allowed a .338 wOBA to lefties with a .214 ISO in 19 plate appearances.
This is a very small sample size for Leiter Jr. but the Braves have a bigger sample size against righties. The Braves' projected lineup has a .214 ISO and .322 wOBA in about 45 plate appearances per player. That's this year. A year where power is hard to come by.
Ozzie Albies, Matt Olson, Austin Riley, Marcell Ozuna, and Travis d'Arnaud have inflated ISO numbers with high wOBA numbers. Adam Duvall has been very unlucky with 20.7% grounders and 24.1% line drives and should start to have some success as the season continues on.
Meanwhile, the Braves will pitch Charlie Morton and while he hasn't been spectacular to start the season, he's a quality pitcher that always finishes the season with solid numbers. So far this year, he's had his struggles against lefties but the Cubs lineup only has four lefties with just one lefty producing. That's Ian Happ. The rest of the lefties haven't done anything against righties.
Therefore, I'll take the Braves -1 in the first five innings. Look for Atlanta to have a great game all-around tonight.
