Texas Rangers vs. Atlanta Braves Prediction
The Braves have gotten off to an inauspicious start this season following up their world series title. Some may call it a little world series hangover or just natural variance, but anyway you swing it, the Braves have not looked like a World Series contender through the first three weeks of the season. They come into this game with a 9-11 record but played better ball in their last home series against the Cubs as they won two of three and their pitching looked a lot better. Now they head on the road to face a Rangers squad who has really been struggling lately, especially at home.
The Rangers have currently lost three home games in a row as the Astros won the last three games of the series and the Rangers in total are just 2-8 in home games this season. They have really been struggling to score as they were only able to put up six total runs in their last three against Houston. Their big bats in the middle of the lineup, Seager, and Semien, have gotten off to below-average starts this year and Semien in particular is hitting just .158 without a homerun so they have been lacking that middle of the order power production.
Tonight, the Rangers hand the ball to Garrett Richards who has a lot of talent but has had a very up and down career. Richards has elite stuff at times but really struggles with a command which can lead to walks and more extra-base hits as you cannot consistently miss spots against big league hitters and get away with it. Richards has gotten off to a solid start in 2022 as he comes into this game with a 2.25 ERA and has not allowed a run over his last 7 innings and 5 total appearances, so will that success continue tonight? I do not believe so.
I believe Richards is due for some negative regression and think the Braves are going to have fun playing in this hitter-friendly ballpark. I also think the Braves as a whole are due for some positive regression, especially Ian Anderson who takes the hill for them tonight. Anderson was really solid all year last season but has gotten off to a rocky start in 2022. He comes into this game with a 1-1 record and a 5.40 ERA as he got hit pretty hard against the Marlins and Reds, 2 fairly bad offenses. Anderson had his best start of the season last week on the road against the Padres who were arguably the toughest lineup he has faced so far and think he will have success on the road again tonight. In that start against the Padres, he only allowed 2 hits and 1 walk and looked fantastic so I am hoping he can channel a performance like that here tonight. Ronald Acuna Jr will have the day off tonight so we won't see him unless it is in a pinch-hitting role but I still think this Braves offense is due for a breakout game.
There aren't many lineups that have more talent from top to bottom and it is just a matter of time before these guys get on a tear. Riley and Swanson both hit towering homers last night against the Cubs and this is a very patient lineup who doesn't mind taking walks so I think they will be able to get on base early and often against Richards and take advantage of his mistakes via extra-base hits. With that being said, I am rolling with Braves F5 ML at -120 and Full Game ML at -125 both for 1U as my most confident MLB picks of the night, as I think the Braves go into Arlington and win the first game of this series.
Texas Rangers vs. Atlanta Braves Pick
- 1 unit - Braves F5 ML at -120 (Bet $120 to win $100)
- 1 unit - Full Game ML at -125 (Bet $125 to win $100)
