The St. Louis Cardinals might have 12 wins on the season. But the offense for the Cardinals against righties has been miserable to start the year. Today, the Cardinals will take on a right-hander in their first game of a new series against the Kansas City Royals, on the road. Meanwhile, the Royals have been absolutely dreadful against lefties this season and will take on a lefty in the first game of the series. So, how will the Cardinals and Royals fare offensively? St. Louis Cardinals vs Kansas City Royals Prediction
The Cardinals will pitch left-hander Steven Matz, who has been much better than advertised this season. He is 2-1 with a 6.11 ERA but has an xFIP of 2.36 with 28.4% strikeouts and 6.2% walks. He's been unlucky with BABIP, which is a .462 number. That means that 46% of balls batted into play have become hits. That will surely come down as the season progresses. The Royals' projected lineup has a .073 ISO with a .270 wOBA on the season. Only Salvador Perez is hitting a high ISO and only two players in the lineup have a wOBA of .350 or higher. The rest are at .314 or lower against lefties this season. Meanwhile, Zack Greinke will take the hill for the Royals. He's not getting a high amount of strikeouts or pitching all that well. However, he's been much luckier with a 2.86 ERA. He won't have to worry about luck against the Cardinals, knowing St. Louis has a .058 ISO and wOBA of .232 against righties this season. That's one of the worst rates for a projected lineup that I've seen this year. Not a single player is batting over a .119 ISO or a wOBA above .305. Therefore, I'm taking the under in the first five innings for this day game.
