MLB expert Mike Spector weighs in with his best bet in this battle between cross-town rivals, the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs. Check out who he's backing in Wednesday night's game from Wrigley Field.
ANALYSIS

Chicago Cubs vs. Chicago White Sox Prediction: Will the White Sox Jump on the Cubs at Wrigley Field?

Before the season started, you would likely not have been surprised to learn the Chicago Cubs would be 9-14 after 23 games. But the Chicago White Sox at 10-13 in that same span? Now that would have shocked most.

The Cubs have lost nine straight home games against NL Central opponents. And while the White Sox have won two straight entering tonight's contest (their first winning streak since April 15-16), they have not won at least three consecutive games since rattling off four straight wins in games two through five of the season.

Oddsmakers do not seem panicked by the White Sox' slow start, as most still have them as the odds-on favorites to win the AL Central. So will they take one more step towards righting the ship tonight, or will their cross-town rivals make sure their shortcomings last a bit longer?

Chicago Cubs vs. Chicago White Sox Prediction

The Cubs have lost ten of 13 after a 6-4 start. A putrid offense is most to blame for their recent skid, as they have scored six combined runs in the last five games and are 1-6 in their previous seven home games. The Cubs last won consecutive games on April 17-18.

The White Sox lead this all-time series 71-64. They enjoyed their short stay at Wrigley Field last season, sweeping all three games, and are 8-2 in their previous ten there. Since starting 6-2, the White Sox have averaged 2.7 runs and have hit just 11 home runs. However, despite their lack of success offensively recently, we are willing to back the over on their team total.

White Sox slugger Tim Anderson is getting hot, going 9-for-20 in the last five games. In addition, Jose Abreu has hit safely in 12 of the previous 15 games. Abreu loves hitting at Wrigley Field, as he is batting .379 (11-for-29) with seven home runs and ten RBI, with hits in six of his last seven.

These impressive hitters take aim at Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks, who is 1-2 with a 5.47 ERA through five starts. Two years ago, Hendricks led the league with 0.9 walks per nine innings, but this year is walking 4.0 batters per nine. In addition, he is 1-5 with a 4.67 ERA in ten starts against the White Sox. More of a cause for concern, Chicago's two-best hitters, Anderson and Abreu, are a combined 19-for-38 with one home run against Hendricks.

The over is 6-0 in Hendricks' last six home starts against teams with a losing record. Thus, we expect this trend to support that the White Sox will do their part in the scoring tonight en route to a bounceback game offensively.
