Colorado Rockies vs. Washington Nationals Prediction
The Washington Nationals will send out Patrick Corbin, who has an 8.69 ERA to start the season along with an 0-4 record. Corbin is a left-handed pitcher that has seen the ups and downs throughout his career.
This season, Corbin has a 5.33 xFIP with 13% walks. He's been a bit unlucky with a .443 BABIP but the unluckiness should continue knowing Corbin is going to be pitching in Colorado.
The Rockies won't have lefty-killer Kris Bryant but still, have a very good lineup against lefties. The projected lineup has a .397 wOBA and an ISO of .157. The Rockies' lineup also strikes out just 16.6% of the time and so far, when teams are putting the ball in play against Corbin, good things are happening.
On the other hand, Austin Gomber will take the hill for the Rockies. Gomber is going to face a Washington Nationals lineup that has a .068 ISO and wOBA of .278 against lefties this season. The Nationals have done well limiting strikeouts but ultimately, the top of the order between Cesar Hernandez, Juan Soto, Nelson Cruz, and Josh Bell are all hitting an abnormal amount of ground balls against lefties. When your best hitters are doing that, it's not a good look.
Gomber has a 4.44 xFIP with 23% striekouts. He's also inducing 45% ground balls and giving up just 20% line drives. He's looking good analytically and that should carry over into this game.
Grab the Rockies in the first five innings.
