I was looking over my card for tonight at lunch and I realized I didn't have an MLB play. Not even one. I don't have to tell you that's unacceptable. If you're reading this, chances are you understand the rules of the game we play. Always bet. That's literally the only rule. Luckily for us, I caught it just in time to do something about it. We really dodged a bullet because after I went over the MLB slate again with a fine-toothed comb, I found something that has no chance of losing. The move was already on my radar since it made it on my watch list article this morning so it's nothing we didn't already know about. Still, it's nice to see this play in my pending wagers.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Texas Rangers Prediction

Martin Perez 5+ Strikeouts (+136) (Bet $100 to Win $136)

*Odds Available at FanDuel at Time of Publishing*

We're heading to FanDuel for this one since they have the best price. DraftKings is hanging over 4.5 for +125 which isn't bad but it's just not as good as +136. That's just how numbers work. Still, if your only option is DraftKings, it's a good enough price to feel good about. At the end of the day, we just want to feel good so there is that to consider.

Martin Perez. That's this guy's first and last name. Sounds like a pitcher. Like a crafty lefty that's not going to whiff 10 guys but can be counted on to get at least five. Funny because that's exactly what he is. He hasn't gone more than five even once but he's landed on the number twice in four starts. That's got me interested in the Martin Perez Experience.

The thing about Perez that's scary is the fact that he doesn't get a ton of swinging strikes. He gets enough though. He got 10 the last time he went on the road which was in Oakland. That feels like enough if you think about the fact that he can paint a corner. Twenty-one percent of this guy's pitches this year have gone for strikes looking. That's pretty crazy.

Still, Perez is and will always be a matchup guy. Just find an ump with a big strike zone (Larry Vanover) combined with a team that strikes out a lot against lefties and we have something. By my count, the Phillies could send six guys with at least a 25% strikeout rate against lefties to battle tonight. On the season, only three teams in MLB have more strikeouts against lefties and all of those teams have more at-bats versus southpaws. This is a good matchup and it's one we could even consider going six whiffs for +300.
