Atlanta Braves vs. Milwaukee Brewers Prediction
The Braves won the World Series last year thanks to premier pitching from their entire starting rotation. But for whatever reason, Braves starter Charlie Morton has struggled this season.
Morton is 1-3 with a 6.85 ERA. He’s got an xFIP of 6.47 with 15.8% of strikeouts and 12.3% of walks. He’s also induced just 38.5% of ground balls and is giving up nearly 25% of line drives to start the season.
Against lefties, Morton has really seen the damage. In 56 plate appearances, Morton is giving up a .474 wOBA and ISO of .333. Those Brewers lefties like Kolten Wong, Christian Yelich, and Rowdy Tellez could do real damage knowing how well they’ve hit for power against righties to start the season.
Meanwhile, the Brewers are sending out a young lefty in Aaron Ashby. Ashby has command issues with 15.6% of walks but also has struck out 27.3% of batters in the last 30 days. Ashby is taking on a Braves lineup that has struck out 30.4% of the time against lefties. That bodes well for Ashby. If he can keep his control and command intact and earn a high amount of strikeouts, the Brewers should be well on their way to a victory against the Braves.
After all, Ashby has limited power and has also limited wOBA to both sides even with the high amount of walks this season. The Braves lineup still has a .191 ISO and wOBA of .315, but overall, Ashby hasn’t allowed ridiculous contact. The ball is rarely in play against him. So let’s take the Brewers to win the rubber match on the moneyline
