Cleveland Guardians vs. Toronto Blue Jays Prediction
Alek Manoah has been one of the best pitchers in the league this season for the Blue Jays. He comes into this game with a 4-0 record and a staggering 1.45 ERA as he has been excellent in all facets this season. He has also faced some stiff competition as well as he has gone against the Astros, Red Sox, and Yankees twice so far and has still been this successful. Today he will have another tough test as the Guardians have been a solid offensive team this season and are hot at the plate.
While the Guardians have been hot, there will be some uncertainty for them today as they have never faced Manoah. It can be difficult hitting against a pitcher for the first time and I have to think it is even more difficult facing an elite pitcher like Manoah for the first time as no one really knows how they are going to see the ball till they step in the box for the first time.
One thing Manoah has done exceptionally well this year is limit right-handed hitters. This season, righties are hitting just .092 off Manoah with a .092/130/200 slash line against him. Myles Straw, Owen Miller, and Franmil Reyes are all solid contributors for the Guardians and are all right handed and I think Manoah will be able to limit their run production.
Jose Ramirez, the all-world performer for the Guardians, is a switch hitter and will be batting left-handed today so the ultimate question is will Manoah be able to limit his production? I think the answer is yes.
This is also a big game for the Blue Jays in general as they have lost 2/3 games in the series coming into today and need to win this game to keep pace with the Yankees and Rays. Overall the Blue Jays are 5-1 in the last game of their last 6 series which tells me that these guys really lock in and don’t take the getaway game at the end of the series for granted.
This game also features the line dynamic of Manoah having the higher ERA than his counterpart, Konnor Pilkington, and still being a considerable favorite. Pilkington is a very solid prospect for the Guardians and comes into this game with a 0.00 ERA as he has not allowed a run in 5 innings this season. This will be his toughest test of the season by far as well as the Jays are finally back to full strength and are loaded with right-handed power hitters who should have a slight advantage over the left-handed Pilkington.
With that being said, I am rolling with Blue Jays F5 -0.5 at -124 for 1U as my most confident MLB play of the day.
