The Guardians and White Sox begin a three-game series in Chicago tonight. It is the fourth meeting of the season between these teams, and MLB expert Mike Spector details who has the edge.

Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Guardians Prediction: Will the White Sox Exact Revenge From an Earlier Sweep?

The Cleveland Guardians and Chicago White Sox begin a three-game series tonight, with both teams entering on winning streaks. While Chicago’s season-high six-game winning streak looks more impressive than Cleveland’s two-game streak, the Guardians have stacked up well against elite competition of late. Cleveland went 4-2 in a six-game stretch against San Diego and Toronto and is now out to prove that its success can also translate to the road, where they are just 7-9 to begin the season.

In mid-April, Cleveland swept a three-game home series against Chicago, outsourcing the White Sox 19-5 in the three games. Will the Guardians continue the head-to-head dominance, or will the White Sox exact revenge? Read on for our best play in today’s series opener between the Guardians and White Sox.

Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Guardians Prediction

Directly following Cleveland’s three-game sweep of Chicago, they went on a seven-game road losing streak against the Yankees and Angels. Cleveland’s offense was non-existent over that seven-game stretch, totaling just 14 runs and getting outscored by 25. They swept a three-game road series at Oakland between then and now, so they do not enter this matchup with complete road futility. But this White Sox team is in a different class than the Athletics.

Today’s starter, Zach Plesac (1-3, 4.44), won one of the starts in the sweep of Chicago, holding the White Sox to two runs on seven hits in 6.2 innings. However, he is still under .500 against them in his career, going 3-4 with a 4.18 ERA in ten starts (56 innings).

Chicago’s Michael Kopech (0-0, 1.17) makes just his second start and sixth career appearance against Cleveland, and he is looking to improve upon his 8.22 ERA in those 7.2 innings. However, current Guardians hitters are a combined 5-for-20 against him with no home runs, so we like his chances of turning in a great start.

The White Sox lineup gets a big boost today as Yoan Moncada makes his season debut. Moncada has been on the IL since the last day of spring training when he suffered a right oblique strain. In his rehab stint, he hit for power as two of his seven hits cleared the fence. His presence makes Chicago’s lineup much deeper at the top of the order.

Cleveland is just 1-7 in its last eight games as road underdogs, while Chicago is 71-32 in its previous 103 games as home favorites. Though Cleveland has won four of the last five head-to-head meetings, the Guardians caught the White Sox in a bad slump the first time around, but all of those problems seem to be fixed, and we expect a big win in this series opener.
