This bet doesn’t make sense to me. Tampa finds Reid Detmers tonight who is a 22-year-old lefty still finding his groove in the league. The reason this line is confusing to me is that Detmers is yet to go more than the first few innings in a game but his earned runs prop is set at 2.5 with no juice on either side. Us getting Rays to score two or more runs feels like a complete misprice and there’s actually a really good middle opportunity for people that are into that for Rays to score exactly two. As for the bet itself, let's get into why I like it so much other than the books pricing things weirdly.
Detmers has allowed two runs in 4/5 games and has averaged allowing 2.6 runs per game. His ERA is 5.32 and he gets a tough test tonight. The Rays are batting a great .262 against left-handed pitching in 244 at-bats and this seems like it has the upside to cash early and be a sweat-free winner. Rays have scored 11 first five runs in their last five (2.2 runs per game) and they have been honestly struggling. If they can struggle and can still hit this prop routinely then imagine finding a 22-year-old while your team is due an offensive explosion.
We have seen some crazy line movement overnight on Tampa which makes me think they win this game outright. I don’t see them winning this one if they can’t score two runs through five innings. This bet has the upside of us not having to depend on Kluber who I feel is due some negative regression. There’s no way he ends the year with an ERA in twos, he’s not that guy anymore. This is a bet I feel really good about and I’ll happily drink more juice.
