The New York Yankees have been one of the better teams in the MLB this season as they come into this game with a 22-8 record. Can they continue that dominance tonight against a surging Chicago White Sox squad? Let's break it down.
ANALYSIS

Chicago White Sox vs New York Yankees Prediction: Can the Yankees Stay Hot?

The Yankees have been on a roll lately as they are currently on a three-game winning streak and are 15-2 over their last 17 games. Their pitching staff and dominance on the mound have played a big role in their success over that streak as they allowed 3 runs or less in 11 of those 17 games. Tonight, the Yankees will hand the ball to talented prospect Luis Gil who is a hard-throwing right-handed pitcher who looked solid last season in his limited innings last season. Here is my pick, prediction, and the odds for Thursday’s game between the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees.

Chicago White Sox vs New York Yankees Prediction

The White Sox as a whole have struggled against right-handed pitching over the last few seasons but I don't think this is an optimal spot for Gil to be making his season debut. The White Sox started off the season very poorly in nearly all facets but have really figured things out over the last two weeks. They are currently 15-14 on the season but are 7-1 over their last eight games and really should be 8-0 if not for an improbable performance by Josh Naylor of the Guardians where he hit a grand slam and a three-run homer in the ninth and 11th innings.

The White Sox have been getting the job done on the mound, just like the Yankees, as they have not allowed more than three runs in any of their last eight games other than the one mentioned in the 12-9 loss to the Guardians. During this 7-1 stretch, they have only allowed 10 total runs in those seven wins as their starting pitchers and bullpen arms have been excellent.

Tonight, the White Sox are starting their ace, Dylan Cease, who has looked phenomenal over his last three starts and has been excellent at home. Three starts ago against the Royals, he took a perfect game into the fifth inning against the Royals and then in his very next start at home against the Angels, he took another perfect game into the fourth inning and tallied a total of 13 innings while only allowing two earned in those two starts. Overall Cease has been excellent so the question will be, Can the big boppers in the Yankees lineup cause problems for Cease? I believe the answer is no.

As mentioned earlier, the White Sox have a trend of crushing left-handed pitching, but the Yankees also have a trend of struggling against hard-throwing power right-handed pitchers. The big power bats in the Yankees lineup of Judge, Stanton, Donaldson, LeMahieu, Torres, etc are all right-handed and think Cease will have an advantage against them tonight as righties are only hitting .134 against him this season and have only allowed a total of three extra-base hits to right-handed batters in six total starts. Cease's splits have also been much better at home, and this is a trend that has been consistent for the last three years.

For whatever reason, Cease has been much more comfortable at home and the numbers have backed that up as he is currently 2-0 with a 1.45 ERA at home on the season and had a record of 6-2 with a 3.18 ERA at home last season as well. The White Sox lineup is also starting to get better as well. Yoan Moncada has recently returned from injury and he is a much-needed piece to that lineup as he is a solid contact hitter who can hit for a high average, add power here and there, and is a good matchup as a switch hitter.

The White Sox overall on the season have been a below-average offensive team and even during this winning streak have only scored 33 runs over their last eight games, but I think this is a perfect spot for them to break out against a young pitcher making his first appearance of the season. In five minor league games this season, Gil has an 0-3 record with a 9.53 ERA and a 1.76 WHIP in 17 innings. He allowed five homers, 18 hits, and 12 walks in 17 innings which is a lot of traffic on the basepaths and I think it will be even harder for him to navigate around Tim Anderson, Yoan Moncada, Jose Abreu, and Luis Robert who are four very solid and experienced hitters. With that being said, I am rolling with White Sox F5 ML -145 and White Sox Full Game ML at -136 for 1U each as my most confident MLB Picks of the night.
