Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Prediction: Can the Dodgers Ride the Momentum From Sunday?
Can one swing of the bat change the fortunes of a team? We have seen it happen before in Major League Baseball and may have just witnessed an already powerhouse team experience a drastic momentum boost yesterday afternoon.
The Los Angeles Dodgers were one out away from being swept in four games at home by the Philadelphia Phillies and were in danger of running their losing streak to five consecutive games. However, Los Angeles came all the way back from a 4-0 deficit to beat Philadelphia 5-4 on a ninth-inning, two-out double by Gavin Lux, and the Dodgers avoided disaster on Sunday.
The Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks begin their second head-to-head series tonight, as Arizona won two of three at home in late April.Â
Can Arizona continue to exploit Los Angeles' home weaknesses, or was Lux's double the catalyst for an epic winning streak by the Dodgers that we have seen so often in recent years?Â

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Prediction
This looks like a pitching mismatch on paper as Madison Bumgarner (2-1, 1.78) faces Tony Gonsolin (3-0, 1.33). However, we expect some regression from Bumgarner, who will struggle to keep up this pace at age 32.Â
Bumgarner has been highly effective through seven starts, as his 229 ERA+ is on pace to be by far the best of his career. However, perhaps the most surprising thing about Bumgarner's beginning to the 2022 season is how his stats have held up despite his strikeout rate of 5.9 per nine innings being on pace to be the worst of his career.Â
Los Angeles is no stranger to Bumgarner, as he makes his 39th appearance and 38th start against them, having only faced the Rockies and Padres more in his career. Bumgarner is a respectable 15-15 with a 2.77 ERA in his career against the Dodgers. However, he has not beaten them since 2017 and has a 3.66 ERA against them since his last win. He now gets to contend with the most loaded Dodgers lineup he has ever faced after the offseason addition of Freddie Freeman and would do well to limit the red-hot Mookie Betts, who homered for the seventh time in the last 20 games yesterday.Â
The Dodgers' pitching staff is loaded with future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw, a budding star in Walker Buehler, whose numbers through his first four full seasons rival some of the best ever to pitch, and Julio Urias, who won 20 games a year ago. However, often lost in the shuffle is Tony Gonsolin, one of the more underrated pitchers on L.A.'s staff. Gonsolin is second on the team with a 1.1 WAR, and the Dodgers are 4-1 in his last five starts, outscoring opponents 32-9.
Los Angeles has won 53 of the last 70 home meetings against Arizona, and we expect the Diamondbacks to be walking into a buzzsaw tonight.
