Oakland Athletics vs Minnesota Twins Best Bet: Can The Twins Pitching Right the Ship Tonight?

Chris Archer used to be one of the best young pitchers in the game before his career was plagued by injuries. Now he is more of a middle-of-the-pack-to-back-end starter, but he can still provide quality innings and I think he is due for a bounce-back performance tonight. Here are our picks, predictions, and odds for Monday's game between the Oakland Athletics and Minnesota Twins.

Oakland Athletics vs Minnesota Twins Prediction

In Archer's first start of the season, he threw four scoreless innings against the Dodgers while only giving up two hits and walking none. The talent is still there but for Archer, he just has to figure out how to be more consistent. In his last two outings, he gave up a total of 10 hits, three walks, and six earned runs in seven innings against the Orioles and Astros.

He really struggled with his command and when deep into a lot of counts, but Archer's splits indicate that this may be a good spot to back him. Archer has a 3.65 ERA on the road as opposed to a 5.40 ERA at home and even more fascinating is that he has an ERA of 2.92 at night compared to 6.30 during the day. This is in a limited sample size of 3 starts both at night and during the day, but it is hard to ignore that big of a discrepancy so maybe Archer just prefers to pitch at night under the bright lights.

Tonight, he goes up against an Oakland lineup, in a night game, that has really struggled to score runs on the season to this point. Ramon Laureano is back in the mix for the A's but even with his presence, they have really struggled to score and are an abysmal offensive team. Oakland has also been one of the worst home teams in the league so far as they come into this game with a 5-12 record in the Coliseum. So, the main question is, Can Archer finally put things back together and help propel the Twins to a win? And I believe the answer is Yes.

The Athletics are starting young pitcher Zach Logue who comes into this game with three starts under his belt and with an impressive 1.35 ERA as he threw seven scoreless in a 9-0 win over the Tigers in his last appearance. He also threw against the Twins just last week and threw five innings while allowing two earned runs in a close loss by a score of 2-1. In that game, Logue had to work around a lot of traffic on the basepaths as he allowed five hits and walks through five innings. The Twins had multiple runners in scoring position throughout the game and could only breakthrough with two solo homers from Buxton and Miranda.

Both of those guys will also be in the lineup tonight and I expect the Twins to have even more success against Logue the second time around now that they have seen his stuff. This game also features the line dynamic that I mention all the time in that the Twins are still favored even being on the road with a starting pitcher with a considerably higher ERA. Archer's ERA of 4.43 pales in comparison to Logue's 1.35 ERA and yet the Twins are still the favorites.

This is a big line indicator that I frequently use when betting on Major League Baseball and it is usually an indicator to bet on the favorite. With that being said, I am rolling with Twins F5 ML at -115 and Full Game ML at -119 for 1U each as my most confident MLB Picks of the night.
