New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies Prediction
The Mets are going to rely on ace pitcher Max Scherzer to win the rubber match of this three-game series against the Phillies.
To begin the weekend series, the Mets won the first game but the Phillies got revenge in the second game. Now it all comes down to tonight.
Scherzer has a 1.80 ERA with a 3-0 record to start his Mets career. He’s got a 3.46 xFIP with 35.1% strikeouts. Walks are a bit high, over 8% but Scherzer has also been hard to hit.
Let's take nothing away from the Phillies. They have a very solid lineup but that same lineup only scored one run in five innings against Scherzer earlier this season.
The Phillies and their projected lineup have a .182 ISO and wOBA of .326. However, the Phillies are only walking 8.4% of the time and striking out 22.8% of the time. The lineup is going to get better as the warmer weather comes
On the other hand, Zach Eflin will get the call for the Phillies. He’s yet to win a game for the Phillies with a 0-1 record along with a 3.45 ERA. Eflin hasn’t been bad but still has a 4.81 xFIP with just 18.8% strikeouts.
The Phillies already played the Mets in a series earlier this season but Eflin never faced the Mets in that series.
Anyway, Eflin has struggled against lefties to begin the year. Lefties have a .336 wOBA and ISO of .258 against Eflin. Therefore, the Mets should have the advantage in this game.
New York will have at least five lefties in the lineup including Brandon Nimmo, Francisco Lindor, and Jeff McNeil, who have all started the season at a very good rate when it comes to ISO and wOBA.
Starling Marte and Robinson Cano haven't started the season red hot against righties but both of those two have home runs against Eflin in their careers. Let's grab the Mets to win this game by multiple runs.
