New York Mets vs. St Louis Cardinals Prediction
1u - Mets -0.5 First 5 Innings (-125) (Bet $125 to win $100)
This might be the easiest bet to make on the day. Max Scherzer is one of the biggest auto tails in MLB history, the guy is so good. He specifically annihilates the Cardinals. These Cardinals bats have only gotten 23 hits in 151 at-bats against him. That is a .152 batting average against him with a massive sample size. Furthermore, he has been great lately against them. In his last 32.1 innings pitched against St. Louis, he has only allowed one run. This is the most dominant pitcher against a team I have seen in a long long time, he is now the new owner of the Cardinals, step aside Bill Dewitt.
So of course, Scherzer is great but this bet also relies on the Mets bats to help out. The Mets have one of the craziest splits I’ve ever seen, they bat a poor .207 against lefties but a great .263 against righties. On the mound for St. Louis today is Jordan Hicks who we all know is right-handed. Hicks loves allowing runs, Hicks has a 4.15 ERA and has allowed 9 runs in his last 14.2 innings pitched. He will probably only go four innings, but he’s usually a shoo-in to allow at least 2 runs. If that’s the case I think is a lock for 1 or less given his history versus this franchise.
The Mets crush righties, Scherzer is the father of St. Louis and this bet is a reasonable price. This is favorite play of the day material but we will stick with one unit due to how much exposure we have on this slate. Hicks only has had 13 matchups against these Mets bats but has allowed 5 baserunners. It's a small sample size but that’s a .384 OBP. I like Hicks more as a bullpen guy than an opener. I think tonight is another night he allows a few runs and gets pulled early. The Mets have the upside to hit him hard too. This bet is so good I can’t even be mad if it doesn’t hit, it checks every possible box.
