Both teams won their games last night, but obviously only one can walk away with the win tonight. In spite of the Mariner’s impressive performance against the Blue Jays last night, I’ll take the Red Sox tonight. Boston Red Sox vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction
This will be George Kirby’s third start in the majors. He pitched very well in his debut at home against the Rays, not allowing any earned runs in six IP, but did struggle in his most recent road start against the Mets. Still, I’ll bet against the rookie having to face this Red Sox lineup. The Red Sox are starting southpaw Rich Hill.
The Mariners currently hold the second-lowest batting average against left-handed pitchers, so I expect the offense to shut back down. Hill has been hit or miss this season, so hopefully, we see another one of his shutout starts. Still, the Red Sox offense has been steadily improving. Neither team’s bullpen has been particularly impressive, but the Red Sox’s should be fully rested after Nick Pivetta went nine innings last night.
The Mariners started off the season strong, but have since fallen into a slump. Over their last 21 games, the Mariners have only won six. Most importantly, they have not won two games in a row over this stretch. The Red Sox were going through a similar struggle, but appear to have turned it around as they have won four of their six most recent games. Take the Red Sox on the moneyline at -125.
