Toronto Blue Jays vs Cincinnati Reds Prediction
Will this help the team probably not as Joey is in his own words saying he is not playing baseball as he should be?"I've performed so poorly to start the season, it's not something I'm comfortable with or used to," Votto said Wednesday from Dayton, Ohio, on a Zoom call with reporters. "Coming back from being on the couch or in bed for eight or nine days, I need to make sure that I'm in a good way physically or I risk injury or I risk poor performance."
Votto is batting .122 and has three RBIs this year safe to say this might be a liability if he is in the lineup as the replacement is hitting 100 points higher at .212. We can make all the jokes we want here as the whole Reds team is going to have trouble finding an All-Star to represent them with a combined team batting average of only .219 and even worse .199 on the road where they have given up the most runs so far this year. (Surprisingly he's only 28th in the league with a .219 average).
The Reds have been the laughingstock of baseball all year but this is baseball and they will still win around 60 games this year. If they play like they have been maybe even more surprisingly they are one of the hottest teams in baseball winning seven out of their last ten games for a team that had four wins in their first twenty games which is very impressive. But, this is a team that managed to lose a no-hitter so we can't put anything past them. What we can say is this team is 1-8 this year against lefties adding Votto to the lineup will hurt tonight as he is a lefty as well and if you need proof this team doesn't hit lefties let's take a quick look at the season.
Over the nine games, they faced lefties this year they have scored zero, one, five, two, zero, one, one, two, and six in their one win in the first game of the season so we can't even count that really. Seven times this year they have scored two or less against a lefty, and tonight they face a very tough lefty who hasn't been himself this year but, Hyun Jin Ryu has seen this team plenty of times (5-2 career) when he was a Dodger, and is off his best performance of the season and is being stretched out tonight to throw 90 pitches or go six innings.
The Blue Jays are the glitzy pick this year that's supposed to end the Yankees and Astros run in the AL. They are the team with all the young talent on offense and an improved pitching staff loaded with arms. They have delivered as they are over .500 but still far from where they can be. This is a buy low and sells high spot, as the Reds are hot while the Blue Jays are the opposite going 3-7 their last 10 and just losing to the Mariners as a -240 favorite.
The Reds have Luis Castillo going for them tonight and the Blue Jays should pound this guy as he is 12-23 in the last three seasons and he is giving up an average of four runs a game and this year he has thrown too many pitches in his two starts and given up six runs in just over nine innings.
With the Blue Jays sitting eight games out this weekend this is their chance to make a run at the Yankees. The Yanks play the second-place White Sox while the Blue Jays know that they need to sweep this awful Reds team. With a team that can't hit lefties all year, with Votto back and his .113 average, and with a pissed-off Blue Jays team off a loss where they could only manage one run (they are 25-13 when they score two or fewer runs in the last game), tonight they take out their frustrations on Mr. Castillo and the last-place Reds.
We don't like to lay big juice so let's do the Blue Jays -1-125 tonight as the Reds have been outscored by 2.4 runs this year on the road so we fully expect the Blue Jays to win by at least two runs and get us the easy W.
