Cincinnati Reds vs. Chicago Cubs Prediction

The Cincinnati Reds will send out Vladimir Gutierrez. If Gutierrez was on any other team, he wouldn't be pitching. Gutierrez has an 8.65 ERA on the season with an 0-5 record. In the last 30 days, Gutierrez also has a 7.02 xFIP with 14.9% of strikeouts and 14.9% of walks. Lefties have a .553 wOBA and ISO of .567 while righties have a .374 wOBA against Gutierrez in the last 30 days. The Cubs don't have the best offense but any offense is good enough against Gutierrez. The Cubs have a .142 ISO and wOBA of .307 in the last 30 days against righties. The Cubs also strike out 25.6% of the time but that probably won't be the case against Gutierrez. On the other hand, Drew Smyly will get the call for the Cubs. Smyly has a 1-5 record but an ERA below 4. He also has an xFIP of 3.52 in the last 30 days with just 5.5% of walks. Smyly, on top of that, is earning 51.6% of ground balls in the last 30 days and has actually been very unlucky with a BABIP of .351 in the last 30 days. Meanwhile, the Reds only have two reliable hitters against Smyly, including Matt Reynolds and Kyle Farmer. Reynolds is usually a nine-hitter and Farmer is also usually at the bottom of the order. That's not good news for a Reds lineup that ultimately has very little power and low wOBA as well. Let's take a shot at the Cubs at -125 on the moneyline. It's always fun fading Gutierrez. He's been horrible all year.
