Nick Martinez is back on the mound tonight and John Hyslop is excited to play him in this San Diego Padres vs. Milwaukee Brewers matchup.

San Diego Padres vs. Milwaukee Brewers Prediction: Trust Nick Martinez in This Spot

Most people just need a chance. I like to believe that at least. It's crazy what can happen when you just get an opportunity. Gambling teaches you that among many other valuable life lessons. I've seen it a million times in the NFL. Back-up running backs have stuffed cash in my pockets multiple times when the guy in front of them went down to injury giving them an opportunity to play. Not even just running backs though. Every position in every sport. Tonight we're getting an opportunity to back a guy that's getting an opportunity. It's pretty much a "mom's spaghetti" moment for all of us. The thing is, I don't think this guy will vomit on his sweater. I actually think he's going to get us paid in a major way. He seems like a trustworthy guy.

Nick Martinez 6+ Strikeouts (+180) (Bet $100 to win $180)

We have to go over to FanDuel for this one. They have all the big plus money magic stuff. Both DraftKings and BetMGM have 4.5 at -110 for you non-believers so there's something here for everyone. I'm just saying that we have a chance to strive for greatness tonight. I look at Monday's like they're 1st down plays. Why not go deep? We can get back on schedule Tuesday and Wednesday if it goes south.

Nick Martinez. The forgotten man. This is a guy I don't know much about. What I do know is he's being tested by the San Diego Padres. We're talking about a guy that whiffed eight Chicago Cubs in a start on May 11th and then was relegated to a middle reliever role just seven days later? Not right.

Fast forward to today and Mike Clevinger is on the 15-day IL opening the day for Martinez to join the starting rotation. Here's the thing though, in his last game in that reliever role, our boy still sat down six Philadelphia Phillies. He only threw 50 pitches people. That's baller status. He's proven that if he gets the right lineup, he'll sit people down. He's a chump killer plain and simple.

Tonight he gets another opponent that he can big boy for the entire outing. On the season, only six teams in MLB have struck out more than the Milwaukee Brewers. They aren't quite the Arizona Diamondbacks, but they are pretty close. Tonight they could send at least five guys that are 25+% strikeout guys over the last 15 days. They've got three more that are 21+%. Martinez is a 13% swinging strike guy so if he gets the right lineup, he'll fan at least six of these guys for the fourth time this season. I'm betting this now.
