Washington Nationals vs Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction: Can We Trust the Dodgers in DC Tonight?
Tonight, we begin the series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals. Usually, teams play better at home, but that is not the case for the Nats, who will have a home-field disadvantage. The Dodgers’ seven-game win streak was snapped in extra innings last night, but this series against the Nationals will provide the perfect opportunity to bounce back. Washington Nationals vs Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction
There’s no question that the Nationals have struggled this season. With their 14-28 record, they currently sit at the bottom of the NL East rankings. Yes, they were able to pick up an 8-2 win last night in Milwaukee, but they have been absolutely terrible at home. When playing in DC, the Nats are only 5-15. At home, they’re batting a disappointing 0.209 and average only 2.80 runs per game.
Los Angeles is starting southpaw, Tyler Anderson. With the exception of one game against the Phillies, Anderson has been great this season and has not allowed more than two earned runs in a start. He did give up six runs to the Nats last season when he was with the Pirates, but the Nationals have since traded almost all of the batters responsible for those runs, leaving a much easier lineup. Considering how awful the Nats have been at home in conjunction with the fact that they are slightly worse against LHPs, makes me more confident in Anderson’s ability to keep the Nats down.
The Nats continue to start ineffective pitcher Joan Adon. In eight starts this season, Adon has posted a 6.34 ERA, and the Nats have only won a single game behind him. He has yet to face the Dodgers offense, but I would be shocked to see Adon find success tonight. LA’s offense currently sits at the top of the league in runs scored per game, averaging 5.43.
The Dodgers have won 27 games this season. In these 27, they have won by two or more runs in all but three. Similarly, the Nats have lost 28 games, cashing their opponents’ -1.5 run line 24-4. Last season, the Dodgers won all seven games against the Nationals. More importantly, LA would have cashed the run line in all seven games if not for a single 1-0 win. The Dodgers' bullpen could be a little tired after this weekend, but the probability of the Nats scoring negates any threat. Let’s continue to fade the Nats at home and take the Dodgers -1.5 at -135.
