ANALYSIS

San Diego Padres vs Milwaukee Brewers Prediction: Can Corbin Burnes Shut Down the Padres?

The Milwaukee Brewers are currently one of the best teams in the NL with a 26-16 record. However, the Brewers are taking on an even better team in the San Diego Padres, who have outperformed them to start the season, with a 28-14 record. Last night, the Padres snuck by the Brewers in the first game of the series last night, winning in 10 innings on a walk-off. How will the Brewers respond with their ace on the mound? Here are our picks, predictions, and odds for Tuesday's game between the San Diego Padres and Milwaukee Brewers.

San Diego Padres vs. Milwaukee Brewers Prediction

The Milwaukee Brewers would like to get one back after losing last night's game in extra innings.

Corbin Burnes will take the mound for the Brewers with his 2.26 ERA. That should help.

Burnes has had a 3.25 xFIP in the last 30 days with 31.7% of strikeouts and 3.2% of walks. He's also inducing 46.8% of ground balls and allowing just 16.5% of line drives.

Meanwhile, the Padres have a .123 ISO and wOBA of .281 against righties in the last 30 days using their projected lineup. San Diego is also striking out 23.3% of the time in the same time frame.

On the other hand, Blake Snell will take the mound for the Padres. The lefty has a 7.36 ERA on the season and an xFIP of 5.63 in the last 30 days. Obviously, it's a small sample size as Snell has just played one game this season, but in that one game, he didn't look very elite. The Brewers have a couple of big-time right-handed bats between Andrew McCutchen and Hunter Renfroe that should certainly do damage against Snell. Other than Chrisitan Yelich and Kolten Wong, the Brewers are going to be all right-handed going up against the lefty Snell.

At this point, Snell doesn't look comfortable on the mound yet. It's likely going to take time for him to adapt. So let's not wait and instead attack him.

I'll take my chances with the former NL Cy Young and back the Brewers to even the series at one.
