The Giants certainly overachieved last season, but the question becomes, what is this team this year? If you look at their roster, they really do not stand out for having any star players. They have a lot of solid players, but a lot of them are cold at the moment. One guy who may be seen as a star is starting pitcher Logan Webb who gets the ball for the Giants tonight. Webb was lights out a season ago, especially in the second half of the year, and has thrown the ball well so far this season, sporting a record of 5-1.
Webb will be opposed by Chris Bassistt, who was an all-star a season ago when he was a member of the Oakland Athletics. Bassistt has looked like he's in all-star form again this season, entering play with a 4-2 record and a 2.77 era. The Mets have been one of the best teams in all of baseball and have a comfortable lead in their division at the moment.
The issue in years past for New York has been injuries, and they may have the same issue this season. They have three starting pitchers who are on the IL, including their two best in Max Scherzer and Jacob Degrom. They are expected to return in July, so the Mets will have to survive until then.
I am backing the Giants on the money line tonight. I know they have let us down the last couple of games, but you can not bet with emotion. The line tonight is a Giants indicator. They can not hit the ball right now, and they are facing one of the best rams in the sport this year, yet they are a favorite tonight.
I expect the Mets to be public dogs which makes me love the play even more. I expect Logan Webb to shove like he normally does at home and for the Giants to put up enough offense to win this ball game. They are due for a bounce back, and I believe we get it tonight!
