Padres vs. Brewers Line Movement

San Diego Padres vs. Milwaukee Brewers Prediction

Today the Brewers will start young left-handed pitcher, Aaron Ashby, who has some electric stuff but has struggled with his command at times. He comes into this game with an impressive 3.49 ERA and even has a save for the Brewers this season so that speaks to how much they value him as a pitcher.

While Ashby’s ERA is solid, he has had to navigate through a lot of traffic this season as he has allowed 17 walks and 22 hits in just 28 1/3rd innings. Ashby has also really struggled away from home as he is starting to have some glaring home versus away splits. At home, he has a stellar 0.00 ERA as he hasn’t allowed a single earned run in 7 1/3rd innings but his numbers on the road are drastically different.

He has a 4.71 ERA in his road appearances and is also 0-3 so the Brewers have not been giving him much run support either. The Padres have been very patient at the plate all series and have no problem drawing walks so I think Ashby may struggle a bit today against a Padres lineup who I think is due for positive regression after only scoring 4 total runs through the first 2 games of this series.

On the other side for the Padres today, Yu Darvish gets the nod and he has been electric at home this year. He comes into this game with a 2-0 record and a 1.37 ERA at home. He has allowed only 3 total earned runs in just under 20 innings against the Braves, Dodgers, and Marlins so it’s also not like those are empty stats against bottom-feeding teams. So the main question today will be, Will Darvish be able to continue his success and lead his team to a series win? And I believe the answer is yes.

While the Padres have only scored 4 runs through the first 2 games of this series, the Brewers have not been too hot at the plate either as they were only able to plate 2 in the first game and 4 in game 2. Even more interesting is that Tyrone Taylor for the Brewers has driven in 5 of those 6 runs so overall the Brewers have been very cold at the plate outside of Taylor.

Darvish has also had success against the guys he will be facing today as there’s only one guy in the lineup for the Brewers today who has a career average over .250 against him. Darvish has also done a great job of being an anchor for this team when they need a big win at home.

The Padres are 5-0 overall in his last 5 starts and most have been close games so Darvish has really been putting the team on his back and has been carrying them to wins and I expect another strong performance from him today.

With that being said, I am rolling with Padres F5 ML -125 and Padres Full Game ML at -132 for 1U each as my most confident MLB picks of the day as I think the Padres take the third game of this series and get the series win over the Brewers.
