Detroit Tigers vs Cleveland Guardians Prediction

I understand this is a lot of juice but I really like this number here for many reasons. First off, Tarik Skubal loves playing against Cleveland. The Guardians have historically owned my Tigers every time we play but when Skubal starts he likes to keep the game fun and low scoring for the bullpen to blow it. Skubal is 4/5 lifetime on this prop against Cleveland and his only miss was last year on the hook allowing six total. It would appear that Skubal is the best version of himself we’ve seen this year and we have reason to believe he should only allow four or five hits tonight.

Cleveland doesn’t like playing lefties, they just don’t. The Guardians bat a horrific .210 against lefties compared to their .253 against righties. The team just doesn’t know what to do against Tarik and it shows. In 58 at-bats these Cleveland batters only have 12 hits against him throughout their careers. I’ll do the math for you, that’s a .206 average. If they keep hitting at that clip it would take 29 plate appearances to get the sixth hit on average. The most batters Skubal has faced all year is 25. Skubal owns Cleveland and the books finally adjusted the earned runs prop for him, this is my favorite pivot. I don’t trust the Detroit bats to help him out so we only want exposure to Tarik pitching well.

Another factor that definitely played a decision in this is that Tarik is coming off of a shin injury. I think this increases the likelihood that he gets pulled earlier because the last thing the Tigers need is him to badly reinjure himself with all of the injuries they are already dealing with. Also if his shin is hurt that could affect his command slightly and we could see him uncharacteristically throw more walks which would be perfect for us. As long as he’s not allowing hits we just want to see that pitch count rise. Skubal is 5/8 on the year on this prop and two of the misses were against the Twins and White Sox who are both known for demolishing left-handed pitching, Cleveland is far from that title. Let's roll!
