Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Best Bet: Can Madison Bumgarner Beat the World Series Favorites?
The team with the most significant turnaround from 2021 to 2022 will again take on the World Series favorites when the Diamondbacks square up against the Dodgers from Chase Field tonight. Veteran Madison Bumgarner is taking the mound for the Diamondbacks, while youngster Ryan Pepiot will get the call for the Dodgers. Can the resurging Bumgarner find success once again?

Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers Line Movement
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction
Madison Bumgarner is a veteran of the MLB, and after a few years of struggling with the Diamondbacks, it appears we are seeing flashes of the man who won three world series in five years with the Giants back in 2010-2014. Bumgarner has faced the Dodgers 39 times in his career, which is second-most for all the teams he's faced. In those 39 games, Bumgarner is 15-16 with a 2.82 ERA, which is pretty good when considering how good the Dodgers are. Bumgarner is very familiar with this team, and he has pitched well against them, including in his start this year against them when he went five innings with three earned runs, all three coming in the fifth. That's not bad against as stacked a lineup as the Dodgers have, which was also on the road. Now, he faces them at home, where he has a 1.82 ERA on the year.
Ryan Pepiot is a young starter who has two major league starts under his belt. His first was fine, with three scoreless innings against the Pirates (although it's the Pirates). His second outing was against these same Diamondbacks, and he gave up three runs in four innings while walking three. That start was also at home. The Diamondbacks should get three or more again off him, especially at home now, because they match up well against the right-hander. The Diamondbacks have many lefty hitters that can smash right-handed pitching, like Daulton Varsho, Pavin Smith, Ketel Marte (switch-hitter), David Peralta, etc.
The Diamondbacks have also been surging in May. In May, they are hitting .247 with a .762 OPS compared to a .181 average and .587 OPS in April. The Diamondbacks are also one of the best teams at covering the first-half run line at home, with a 17-6 record on the +.5 run line.
The Diamondbacks got obliterated yesterday 14-1, but I like their odds much better tonight with Bumgarner back on the mound. He knows how to pitch to this team and is very familiar with them. It's always scary to fade the Dodgers, but I believe this is an excellent spot to do so. Take the Diamondbacks to cover the first-half run line behind their veteran starter.
