Handicapper and player prop expert John Hyslop is back with his top MLB player prop bet for Friday. This time his pick comes from the San Diego Padres vs. Pittsburgh Pirates game with his sights set on starting pitcher Jose Quintana.
ANALYSIS

San Diego Padres vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction: Juice Drinking With Jose Quintana on Friday

The people are saying they want more layups. Dunks even. The issue with layups and dunks is you have to pay for them. These things can get juicy and I really am not a juice guy. Never have been. Even as a kid, the only juice I liked was orange juice but that's because I grew up in Florida. That stuff was everywhere down there. It's just how Florida works. But even though I'm not a juice guy, I'm going to give the people what they want. If you people want easy wins at -150 and up, I'll do it. I like you guys and I want you to be happy. So being that today is Friday, I figured I'd toss out the first-ever Juice Drinker's Play. Fair warning, this will likely hit before you even get comfortable. If you want the sweat, look elsewhere. We're talking layups here.

San Diego Padres vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction

Jose Quintana Over 3.5 Strikeouts (-152) (Bet $152 to Win $100)

*Odds Available at FanDuel at Time of Publishing*

I'm at FanDuel for this one since no one else has a number for Quintana yet. This isn't a dis to DraftKings though. They've actually been pretty good lately at getting lines up. They know we need this stuff and they've answered the bell. We can't bet without lines. Everyone knows that. Still, only one book I use has a line for Quintana and it's FanDuel.

Jose Quintana. I remember when he came into the league a few years back. He was going to be the next thing. That hasn't really happened but it's not like he's been bad. If you say that, you're lying to yourself. He's been pretty okay. He's never really been a strikeout guy so the idea that people were expecting him to be one is crazy. It's not what he does.

So why are we betting him to strike people out tonight? Because he's not exactly not a strikeout guy either. At 3.5, his number is insultingly low given he's struck out at least four people in four of his last five starts. He fanned at least five in three of those starts, with one being a nine strikeout performance. He's not just beating up on bad teams either. Two of those starts were against the Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals. They aren't teams to target in the strikeout market.

Quintana is getting the San Diego Padres tonight which isn't great but it isn't bad either. They've got five guys that could be in the lineup tonight that are at least 26.3% strikeout guys versus lefties this season. If Jorge Alfaro is in the lineup that's an automatic one whiff (maybe two). Even though the Padres are decent against lefties (.732 OPS), I still think Quintana will go long enough to make four guys sit down. If you're drinking juice tonight, this may be your flavor.
