Cincinnati Reds vs. San Francisco Giants Prediction: Can The Reds' Bats Get Hot in Cincinnati?

The Reds and Giants will kick off game two of the series from Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati this afternoon, starting at 4:10 p.m. EST. The Reds took game one by a score of 5-1 with the help from a stellar outing from Graham Ashcraft, who went 6.1 innings without an earned run. Can the Reds repeat and take a series win? Let's dive into my predictions, picks, and the odds for the Reds vs Giants game.

Cincinnati Reds vs. San Francisco Giants Prediction

I have two plays for this game, the first being the first the over. It's no secret that Vladimir Gutierrez has been struggling. Gutierrez is 0-6 with an 8.7 ERA and a 1.9 WHIP on the season. So the easy bet would be the Giants, right? Well, not necessarily. The Giants have been struggling to keep opponents scoreless themselves recently, and their 4.77 runs allowed per game is 25th in the MLB.

Alex Wood has not been the starter we saw last year. His ERA is an entire run higher, and almost every measured metric is worse this year. He's had flashes of good outings, but he's been way too inconsistent to back. His ERA is 5.5 in May alone, and he hasn't had a single quality start.

Not much needs to be said about Vladimir Gutierrez in this spot for our reasoning on the over behind. He has yet to pitch more than 4.2 innings, and he has given up three or more runs in every start since his first start of the year. Gutierrez is the weakest starter in the rotation, and the Reds are already near the MLB worst with 5.72 runs allowed per game, which is 30th in the league. The Giants do have some injuries on their roster right now, but I think after a one-run game yesterday, their bats heat up today.

The weather should help us as well, as it will be a nice day in Cincinnati, and the wind will be blowing slightly out to left field. This will favor right-handed hitters, especially against Alex Wood, a left-handed pitcher. This segues nicely into our player prop.

Cincinnati Reds vs. San Francisco Giants Pick

Straight Pick: Giants/Reds O10 @ -105 (Bet $105 to win $100)

Cincinnati Reds vs. San Francisco Giants Player Prop Prediction

The prop I am backing in this one is Brandon Drury to hit a home run. The 29-year-old is the home run leader for the Reds with eight, and he gets a good matchup against the left-handed pitcher in Alex Wood. Drury has a 49% hard-hit percentage, which is in the 89% percentile of MLB hitters. Drury is also hitting .286 off left-handed pitching this year with a .889 OPS. He is only hitting .217 off right-handed pitching. This year, almost all of Drury's home runs have been to left field, where the wind is blowing out today. Drury will also be near the top of the order, so he should have 2-3 at-bats against Wood. I like him to go yard this afternoon.
