New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies Prediction
The Mets were ahead 7-0 in yesterday's game but ended up winning by the score of 8-6. The Phillies clawed their way back in the game on Friday but couldn't get the job finished. Tonight, Zach Eflin will look to keep things a bit closer early on. Eflin is 1-3 on the season with a 3.65 ERA to start the year. Eflin has had a 3.19 xFIP in the last 30 days with 27.8% of strikeouts and 4.2% of walks. He's been very good but has allowed a higher wOBA to lefties in his last 43 plate appearances. The Mets have a .326 wOBA against righties in the last 30 days with the projected lineup and have only struck out 17.2% of the time. Eflin is known for high strikeouts and low walks but the Mets can work counts and put the ball in play. On the other hand, Taijuan Walker will get the call for the Mets. His xFIP is high in the last 30 days at 5.02 and he's only earning 12.2% of strikeouts. However, Walker is getting 58.3% of ground balls and 13.1% of line drives in the last 30 days. That's what's allowing him to keep his ERA down. Walker has an ERA of 2.70 with a 2-0 record. He's been much better recently but has allowed some power to lefties in the last 30 days. Still, the Phillies have a wOBA of .299 and strike out 25% of the time. Walker has the better matchup against the Phillies and will get to pitch in Citi Field. Only Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber are real threats to Walker when it comes to power numbers from the left side. Therefore, I'll rock with the Mets, at home at a short price of -130. They're going to want to get the series win tonight knowing Zack Wheelers is on the mound tomorrow.
