ANALYSIS

Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles Prediction: Can the Red Sox Hot Hitting Continue?

The Red Sox started the season so poorly, that even with good play, Boston really hasn't positioned themselves any closer in the AL East standings.

The Red Sox are still 22-25 on the season but could win a home series against the Baltimore Orioles with a victory today. The Orioles are still the worst team in the AL East with a 20-28 record.

Can the Red Sox continue their hot hitting and win the series against the Orioles today? Here are our picks, predictions, and odds for Sunday’s game between the Baltimore Orioles and the Boston Red Sox.

Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles Prediction

The Boston Red Sox will take on Bruce Zimmermann of the Baltimore Orioles today.

Zimmermann is a left-handed pitcher with a 3.78 ERA on the season. But don't let that ERA fool you. Zimmermann has been much worse in the last 30 days analytically. Zimmermann has had a 4.94 xFIP in the last 30 days with just 15.9% of strikeouts.

He's also inducing just 40.9% of ground balls and getting rocked by both sides of the plate. Lefties have a wOBA of .327 with an ISO of .313 in the last 30 days while righties have a .354 wOBA and ISO of .270 in the last 30 days against Zimmermann.

The Red Sox have exploded offensively in the last couple of weeks and should be able to get to Zimmermann with a .340 wOBA as a lineup against lefties in the last 30 days. Looking for the best sportsbook offers? Check out the free bets page

On the other hand, Nick Pivetta will get the start for the Red Sox. He has a 4.25 ERA but has been so much better as of late with an xFIP of 3.83 in the last 30 days.

Pivetta is earning 24.8% of strikeouts and allowing just 2.5% of walks while also giving up a BABIP of just .224.

The Orioles haven't been awful offensively against righties. They have a .179 ISO and wOBA of .334 using their projected lineup. However, Pivetta has been seriously unhittable recently and looks so much better than he did earlier this season.

The command is what has changed for Pivetta if we're being honest.

But I'm not looking to fade this Orioles lineup. They can absolutely do some damage. Instead, I'm going to roll with the Red Sox to score three runs or more in the first five innings of this game.
