Cardinals vs. Pirates Line Movement

St. Louis Cardinals vs. San Diego Padres Prediction

The St Louis Cardinals vs. San Diego Padres will take place from Busch Stadium in St Louis on this Memorial Day. These two teams look to be playoff teams at this stage in the season and will now battle out a series starting today.

The Padres have been one of baseball's best teams to this point in the season, largely thanks to their pitching. Their starting pitching has been very strong, along with their bullpen. The Cardinals have jumped out to a strong start on their season and will be competing for the NL Central title.

The Cardinal's success has been largely thanks to their lineup. They have one of the best hitting lineups in baseball, led by All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado. Arenado, who was a long-time Rockie, came over last season and has been outstanding for the red birds this year. The best player for St Louis has been multiple-time All-Star first baseman, Paul Goldschmidt. Goldy is hitting an astonishing .352 on the campaign, which is unheard of in this age of baseball.

The starting pitching matchup today will be between a couple back end guys as the Padres send young right-hander Nick Martinez. Martinez will be opposed by southpaw Packy Naughton.

I am backing the Cardinals today on the moneyline at home. I think this is a pretty even matchup in the pitching department as I expect multiple arms to go today for St Louis. Martinez has been solid, but this will be one of his tougher tasks on the season facing this Uber-talented Cardinals lineup. The Cards should be able to get to the young right-hander today.

Despite the great record, this Padres offense does not put a lot of fear into me until Fernando Tatis Jr. returns. Manny Machado is having an MVP type of season, and Eric Hosmer has been one of the best hitters in baseball this season, but if the Cardinals can limit them today, I think they can shut down this Padres lineup. Let’s stay hot on the diamond!
