Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Atlanta Braves Prediction
For game two of the series, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Atlanta Braves will battle it out from Arizona tonight. The Braves are fresh off a world championship, but they have struggled mightily this season. The Braves saw the heart and soul of their team, and best player Freddie Freeman depart in the offseason. The Braves replaced Freeman with Matt Olson, who is an All-Star himself. The team has just not meshed to this point in the season, struggling at times to produce runs and at other times struggling to shut down opposing offenses.
The D-Backs have been one of the more surprising teams this season as they were slated to be one of the worst teams in all of baseball. The pitching of the D-Backs was the biggest issue, but they have had a few guys really step up this season, including the man who threw last night in, Zach Gallen.
The Braves will look to bounce back tonight, and they will send veteran right-hander to the bump Charlie Morton. Morton, who was a part of multiple World Series teams, will be tasked with shutting down this Diamondbacks lineup.
The D-Backs will send 24-year-old right-hander Humberto Castellanos to the mound. He has struggled this season, sporting an ERA north of five on the year, but the D-Backs are optimistic about his stuff long-term.
I am backing the Braves to bounce back tonight on the road with Morton on the mound. The Braves are the best team in baseball right now, under .500, in my opinion. They have too much firepower in this lineup to be a team that is under .500. It could be an extended World Series hangover combined with the fact that their star Ronald Acuna Jr. was out for the first month-plus of the season.
The bottom line is I believe this team will turn it around and tonight is a perfect spot to back them off a loss. Lastly, I give them a significant matchup on the mound tonight. Castellanos has really struggled so far this season, and this veteran Braves lineup should be able to jump on him tonight.
