Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers Prediction
The Chicago Cubs have so many injuries that they've been dealing with. However, the offense still profiles nicely against lefties.
Tonight, the Cubs will take on Eric Lauer, who is a lefty, for the Milwaukee Brewers. Lauer has a 4.89 xFIP in the last 30 days while earning just 37.5% of ground balls this season. His BABIP has been .217 in the last 30 days and he's been a bit lucky in that regard. Because of that, Lauer has an ERA of 2.31 on the season with a 5-1 record. He's been very good, but he's also hittable.
The Cubs have a lineup that has a .184 ISO and wOBA of .406 against lefties in the last 30 days. It's not the most prolific lineup but it should get the job done with under 39.5% of ground balls against lefties in the last 30 days and over 22% of line drives against lefties in the last 30 days.
On the other hand, Justin Stelle has been the opposite of Lauer. He's a left with a 5.40 ERA along with a 1-5 record. But he has an xFIP of 3.48 in the last 30 days with 32.9% of strikeouts.
Analytically, you would think Steele has the better ERA but it's a three-point difference.
The Brewers only have a .106 ISO and wOBA of .254 against lefties in the last 30 days along with 26.6% of strikeouts. This is a great matchup for Steele to get the Cubs their first win of the series. And that's the direction I'll go.
I'm taking the Cubs in the first five innings on the moneyline. I'm not going to fool around with the bullpens but I like Steele to give the Cubs some quality work tonight and believe the Cubs can score some runs against Lauer.
